The stars in the sky were bright and looked like fireflies attached to a black sheet of ice. The moon hung in the middle of it all, and moonlight streched and lit up Wolfpelt's gray and silver fluffy coat. He lay outside of the warrior's den. Honestly, he didn't like sleeping among the rest of the warrior. He normally liked to sneak out while everyone else was sleeping and sleep outside of the den.
Tonight, he couldn't sleep, though. He didn't know why. He just couldn't. So, he sighed, and watched the stars above in the sky. Just like he did on most nights while he awaited to fall into a peaceful sleep.

The sand-furred she-cat rolled over in her nest, letting out a soft sigh. She felt tired to her bones after long hours trying to scrape up some food for her Clan. Leafbare was coming, and its chill was already making her feel tired and hungry. She had only eaten a stringy mouse all day, and the absence of a good meal was weighing on her, preventing her from sleeping. Deciding that her tossing and turning would disrupt the other warriors, Hazelight got up and slowly made her way to the entrance of the warrior's den. She slipped out into the cold night air, fluffing her fur up against the chill. She pricked her ears and looked up at the beautiful stars, feeling the discomfort inside of her ease with every moment looking at the glorious spirits of her ancestors. There was a faint sound nearby and she turned to see Wolfpelt, one of her Clanmates, lying out in the cold night air. She pricked her ears and looked at him curiously. Perhaps he was having trouble sleeping, too. She padded over with less of her usual enthusiasm, but her voice was pleasant, if not a bit hushed, when she said,
"Hello there, Wolfpelt. What keeps you up at this hour?" she murmured with a pleasant smile.

Wolfpelt glanced over at the she-cat and sighed. He wasn't one who took pleasure in his night being disrupted, but, it was what it was. So, he shrugged and offered a small half smile. "Can't sleep...just looking at the stars" he said, his voice staying that normal old, usual old monotone level.
He didn't say much, but then again, when did he?

Hazelight blinked and looked up at the stars. A cheerful smile spread across her face, and she let out a soft purr.
"Yes, they are beautiful, aren't they? I like to imagine the spirits of my kin are among those stars, blazing even after death. It is a nice thought, I suppose." She sighed and looked back at Wolfpelt, her expression one of curiosity. She did not know much of her Clanmate, except that he tended to keep to himself and that, for all the moons she had known him, she had never heard him speak. He had such a... sad way of speaking. Or perhaps that was not a good way to think about it. It was just so unemotional. Hazelight imagined that he must think her animated way of speaking as strange as she found his monotone.
"Do you come out here often to stargaze?" she asked.

Did this she cat ever stop talking? How did Starclan 'bless' him with the chattiest cat in the clan? Didn't she know he wasn't the one to hold a conversation? He was anti social, but he certainly wasn't rude. So, he pushed the discomfort from his mind and pointed a grayed muzzle towards the night sky to avoid her rather enthusiastic smile and stare.
"I do this most nights. But most the time I don't have anyone interrupting the peace." he sighed.

Hazelight's smile wavered. She stared uncertainly at the tom and then looked down at her paws, feeling heat steal over her pelt. After a moment of reining in her embarrassment she murmured,
"Oh... I... I'm sorry for disturbing you, then. Um... I'll just... go." She stood up and looked about the camp. It would probably be a bad idea for her to go out into the marshes in the middle of the night. Highly unsafe on her own. Not to mention the chill would make it dangerous, if she fell into a puddle or something. But what else was there to do? She probably wouldn't be able to get back to sleep yet. But Hazelight figured it would be better to go anywhere, since Wolfpelt seemed to detest her company so much.

Wolfpelt suddenly realized how rude he sounded and felt horrible. "Wait..." he blurted out before she could walk away. The expression on her face almost twisted his heart. "That didn't come out right. Please, stay. The company is...nice." he said, unsure if he meant it or not.
The tom moved over to give Hazelight room, flicking his tail at the spot to invite her to lie next to him.

Hazelight glanced back at Wolfpelt, not sure whether he meant what he said or not. He did not sound very convincing, and she honestly did not want to bother him. But perhaps he would not mind if she managed to stay quiet. Yes. That was what she would do. Hazelight dipped her head to him and slowly lay down beside him, staring up into the night sky. It really was so magnificent. She wondered if her father and mother were really up there looking down at her. She wondered if her sister was, too... But that thought stung her, and she pushed it away. A soft sigh escaped her lips, and she thought that this was sort of lonely, even if she was sitting next to a Clanmate. Her sister had been as talkative as she. They probably would have woken half the warrior's den by now if they had been awake together, sitting out under the stars. Hazelight fought again to master her memories and keep her thoughts merely on the cold stars above, and not on the past.

Wolfpellt looked around awkwardly. He didn't know how to talk to she cats. He never had to. And this she cat was different. She smelled sweet and her body was warm against his. The Shadowclan tom had no idea what to say.
"So..."

Hazelight's ear flicked, a reflex of surprise at hearing a deep monotone just beside her. She glanced at Wolfpelt, her wide, molten-gold eyes staring at him inquisitively.
"So...?" she echoed, her voice lifting to make it clear that she echoed his words back as a question. The she-cat thought that the tom looked somewhat uncomfortable, and she wasn't sure what she was doing to make him that way. Whether she talked or not he seemed displeased with her company, and that thought made her feel terrible for imposing on him. Perhaps it really would be better if she tried to go back to sleep or something.

"This is always the best part of my day..er..night" he said, and it was the truth. The stars were beautiful and it was perfect relaxation time. "The trees get in the way, sadly..." and then he trailed off and his eyes looked at his paws. The last cat to share a moment like this was his father, Deerheart, who began walking with Starclan a few moons ago.

Hazelight watched Wolfpelt's face closely, listening with a curious expression. It was interesting to learn more of a Clanmate she could not say she knew at all, really. She blinked and looked out at the trees he had spoken of. A small smile crept onto her face.
"I suppose they do," she mewed. "But I like trees. WindClan may have the best view of the stars on their moors, but I would feel too exposed living out in that patch of wilderness." Too late Hazelight thought that her talking might annoy Wolfpelt, and she flushed a bit and looked down at her paws.

All her words came out so fast, but Wolfpelt bit back a comment about it. "Well...stars are nice to be able to see... it helps me feel closer to our warrior ancestors" he said softly. What was he doing? He never talked, especially to she cats. For once, though, he easily opened up a little.
He got quiet and casted his amber stare back to the sky. His breathing slowly started to match hers, and maybe it was just him - but it almost seemed as their pelts were brushing closer. His whole body heated up. He was actually nervous! Could she tell?

Hazelight could tell that Wolfpelt was uncomfortable. She wondered if he talked to others much at all--talked to she-cats might have been the better question. Hazelight smiled a little at his nervousness, amused despite herself. She looked at the stars and sighed.
"Yes, I should say they do," she meowed. She glanced at him and smiled again. There weren't many things she could say to make him feel comfortable--in fact, she thought her talking annoyed him--but she thought that maybe her smiles could put him at ease. She had been told that she had a nice smile. At that moment she hoped those compliments proved true.

Wolfpelt looked at her smile and his heart skipped a beat. 'She's beautiful...' he thought to himself. Why was he getting so comfortable around her? That wasn't normal. Not for him, anyways. After a few moments of silence, he finally spoke up "I normally sleep out here at night...and...well... if you'd like to stay with me out here... I mean...you don't have to...but if you..well I mean" great, his nervousness was coming out in a clutter of words.
