The offer was strange, Hazelight supposed. She was not sure if she had guessed he slept out here in the clearing. She had never seen him sleeping in the den, so it wasn't all that surprising in the end. But the fact that he would invite her to stay with him in his solitary made her feel nice. Sort of like he was letting her in. She smiled at him.
"I'd like to, thanks. It gets so stuffy in that den. It's nice out here. Your fur must keep you warm." She glanced at his light-dark fur that brushed her side, filling her with warmth that was welcome in the cold night. Then she looked back at him and thought that he was quite handsome, with the stars shining in his eyes and the moonlight on his fur. Don't read into his invitation, mouse-brain, she thought, chastising herself.

To his relief, Hazelight agreed to his offer. Maybe it would be nice to not be alone for once. And maybe her soft pelt could help keep him warm from the freezing cold.Normally he did get cold out here by himself, and struggled to keep himself warm. Wolfpelt couldn't find any words to say. He just sat there in silence and for some reason enjoyed her being next to him.

Hazelight looked closely at Wolfpelt and thought he seemed more relaxed. She was glad that he was becoming more comfortable in her presence. She stretched her forepaws out in front of her and then tucked them close to her chest, letting out a contented sigh as she closed her eyes and allowed herself to relax. The she-cat curled her tail over her forepaws and sighed softly. For once she was okay with being next to a cat and saying nothing. She didn't really have to fill the silence. It seemed natural, somehow, when it usually didn't. It was a strange feeling, but not unwelcome.

"You know" he said suddenly "Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever have a mate and kits..." he said awkwardly. "Or if I'd even be a good father. I don't know a thing about kits. But, I wonder if I'll join Starclan alone" he admitted. Great Starclan! Wolfpelt was opening so fast to this she-cat so fast. He was shocking himself.

The tom's words brought Hazelight back from her light doze. She glanced at him with her wide, golden eyes, listening with an intent expression on her face. She considered his words and felt a pang in her heart. She knew what it was like to feel alone. She had lost her family, her sister, who was also her best friend. A part of her had the same fears that Wolfpelt did. So she felt that she should encourage him. Perhaps he really would find someone someday. Who could say?
"I don't think any of us knows how to be a parent at first. It comes naturally, just like love. It's something you sort of... fall into, you know. It creeps up on us, and by the time we realize we've fallen it's too late to go back. I'm sure that one day you will wake up and find that you do love someone. And she'd be a mouse-brain not to like you, too." Hazelight was about to tell him that he was handsome and strong and those were qualities that most she-cats liked, but she got a little embarrassed at her outpouring of words and so she shut her mouth and stared down at her paws.

Wolfpelt was a bit speechlesss when she slipped the compliment in. He looked at her, and couldn't find the words to reply back with. He just stared at her for a few silent moments, hoping his mind would come up with something soon. But it came up with nothing. In a way, it warmed his heart.
Were these actual...feelings?
"Well."he finally said, ripping his amber eyes from her. "It's getting late...maybe we should get some sleep" Wolfpelt suggested.
((ooc: we can continue this thread with them sleeping and dreaming and then the following morning if you want))

OOC: Sounds most excellent.
A small smile tugged at the edge of Hazelight's mouth. She could tell that she had surprised him, and she was glad of that. He probably needed more surprises in his life. They would bring many new things, like friendship and maybe even love. Hazelight's heart seemed to constrict a little at the thought of him finding a mate, having kits. She wondered why. It wasn't as if she knew him all that well. She couldn't have developed feelings for him so quickly, could she? That would be... silly. But you're the one who just said feelings can creep up, that they can be unexpected. Troubled, the she-cat stared at her paws and then flicked her ear and nodded slightly.
"Yeah. Sleep." She sighed softly and wriggled in place to get comfortable, drawing her legs out before her again. Hazelight closed her eyes and rested her muzzle against her paws, willing herself to drift off to sleep, even with the warm pelt of her companion filling her with strange tingling feelings.

Wolfpelt curled up, pressing his fur against Hazelight's side. Her warmth and scent were both comforting. He drew in the scent one more time and made sure he was comfortable, and then he had no trouble at all falling into a deep sleep.
It was dark. Pitch black night, without a single star in the sky. There was no moon or anything. Just darkness. He could make out a faint outline of a cat, but he couldn't see who. The cat started to run, and he followed it. As the figure sped up, so did he. In the distance, he could suddenly see a bright light. Wolfpelt squinted his eyes, and for a moment, he saw his father in the light.
"Deerheart!" he cried out his father's name, but the cat would not listen. The cat kept running, and the light came closer. The light was coming from the eyes of a monster on the Thunder path. Wolfpelt knew this. This is exactly how his father died.
"No!" he called, but it was too late. The cat was hit by the monster, and a loud roaring noise was ringing in his ears. Once the monster was gone, stars and the moon started to appear in the sky. He ran up to the body lying on the ground.
To his surprise, however - the cat in front of Wolfpelt wasn't his father. It was him
With a sharp gasp, Wolfpelt woke up. His heart was racing, and he could still hear the roaring of the monster in his ears. He looked around, and it was pure daylight out. He glanced over to see Hazelight still sleeping soundly next to him.
The tom caught his breath and calmed down a little. It was just a dream.

Hazelight drifted off to sleep, feeling Wolfpelt's warm fur pressing against hers and listening to his breathing beside her.
Standing at the top of a hill, Hazelight looked down at a field of stars. She searched among the stars, trying to find something but not knowing exactly what she was looking for. The stars in the field moved and breathed, their forms drifting like smoke in the wind. Hazelight saw one of them moving near her and gasped. The star-cat looked like... like her father. She moved towards him, following him through the field of stars. Hazelight looked about for a particular cat among the star-cats that surrounded her.
"Wildeyes?" she called softly, looking about her. She bit her lip and waited, but none of the star-cats reacted. Hazelight turned, but she saw that her father had vanished into the stars. Hazelight opened her mouth to call his name, but in that instant she was pulled out of the dream and into reality...
Hazelight started when she felt Wolfpelt jerk beside her. Blinking in the daylight, she turned to look at him with inquisitive, molten-gold eyes.
"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice a bit rough with sleep.

Not long after Wolfpelt woke up, the she-cat next to him did, too. "Er, yeah. Just a bad dream" he said, acting like it was no big deal at all. But really, he couldn't stop thinking about it, and the roaring sound wouldn't silent itself. He needed to clear his mind, or else this was going to be a long day.
"How'd you sleep?" he decided to ask.

Looking at his face, Hazelight knew that he was more affected by this bad dream than he wanted to let on. But she decided not to press the matter. Wolfpelt probably just didn't want to talk about it, and she could relate to that.
"I slept very well, thank you. It's sort of different, sleeping out in the clearing." Hazelight smiled at him and then glanced about the clearing to see if any other cats were awake. She probably should be embarrassed to be found sleeping outside the den next to a tom, but she wasn't. She was glad to see the start of another day, despite her strange dream and the echo of the lonely feelings she had experienced that night. Wolfpelt's presence had helped her to feel... not so alone. It had been hard to lose her sister, and the wound still hurt sometimes, even if she did her best to hide it from everyone else.

"It felt weird to me, too, at first" he admitted. "But now, I feel like I can get away, just for a little bit, from being so crowded. Not to mention, get away from Dustcloud's snoring!" he said, half jokingly. Amusement lit up in his eyes. He felt strange, actually showing off some emotion for once. Although his monotone voice stayed...well...monotoned, the words he was speaking were opening up more, like he was a bit more relaxed.
"So, what would you say for an early morning duo hunting patrol?" he asked.

Ears pricked, Hazelight listened to Wolfpelt and watched his facial expressions and thought that he seemed more animated, if not still a bit monotonous in vocal tone, than he had been before. Perhaps he's opening up to me a little? she thought, feeling a bit of satisfaction at the idea, though she hardly knew why. At the comment on Dustcloud's snoring, Hazelight let out a silvery laugh and smiled at him.
"Yes, he certainly is noisy," she purred. Then he asked her if she wanted to go out hunting, and Hazelight's smile widened, if that were even possible.
"Hunting sounds like a good plan!" she said enthusiastically. Hazelight was glad that she was getting the chance to know Wolfpelt. She wanted to understand him more, if possible.

Most of the clan was still asleep, so it'd be easy to wake up and go without being bothered. It was just the way Wolfpelt liked it. He got up and stretched, letting out a yawn. He gave his ruffled pelt a few licks before starting towards the entrance to the camp. "Hopefully we'll be able to find something to bring back" he said, glancing over to make sure Hazelight was following him.

With a stretch the she-cat got up and followed Wolfpelt. Hazelight's whiskers twitched as she padded along with a swing in her step and a wave in her tail. What a beautiful day it was! She appreciated the birdsong in the trees and the faint light of dawn on the leaves of the trees. Hazelight's smile was wide as she trotted after Wolfpelt. He looked over his shoulder and mentioned something about bringing back prey, and Hazelight lifted her tail and grinned.
"Oh, we will. Have some faith in our awesome warrior skills," she meowed with a laugh.
