Wolfpelt just shrugged. He didn't exactly have the same enthusiasm as she did. He couldn't help but to smile, though. For some reason, the kind of excitedness that normally annoyed him to no end was....well...cute. Maybe, that was the word. Just maybe.
"Ah, I guess so.."

Snorting, Hazelight flicked Wolfpelt's shoulder with her tail tip.
"You guess so. Very committed, I'm sure," she meowed with a touch of sarcasm. Then she laughed again and jogged into the squelching marshlands, enjoying the smell of the soil and the sharp pine-scent that came from some trees nearby. Being out of the camp was nice, especially so early in the morning. Hazelight didn't often go on unsanctioned hunting patrols, and she felt a spark of excitement at the thought of this small rebellious move. Not that it was all that wrong of her or anything, but she was glad to have the opportunity to do something exciting for a change, whatever the case may be.

It was obvious that Hazelight had never done something like this. This was normal for Wolfpelt. He liked taking a bit of his free time to go hunting or even just walking. It was a good time to wake up and...normally...have alone time with his thoughts and himself. This time, though, he had the she-cat around. He wasn't going to complain, though. He did offer for her to come with. And he always enjoyed being around her, for whatever reason.
The fresh scent of a vole hit his nose, and he slightly opened his mouth to carefully draw the scent in more. His eyes flickered over to a tree and saw the little creature poking it's head out from it's nest nearby. It looked around cautiously, then proceeded to scamper away from it's safety place of hiding. This would be all his.
He got down in a low hunter's crouch, pulling himself low to the ground towards the furry prey. He was careful with each paw step, careful not to step on any twigs or crunchy leaves. Once he was close enough, he sprang at it. It attempted to scurry away, but Wolfpelt was faster and caught his claw onto it, killing it quickly with a tiny bite on the neck.
'Thank you, Starclan' he thought to himself, returning back to Hazelight with pride in his eyes and a vole in his jaws.
Wait. Was Wolfpelt trying to...show off?
No, he couldn't be.
Could he?

The warm scent of prey caught Hazelight's attention and she paused, drawing the scent in deeply. She saw that Wolfpelt had caught onto the vole quicker than she had, and she turned to watch him. One could not help but admire the way he moved, the sheen of the sun on his thick fur. Hazelight shook her head, trying to clear it of its wayward thoughts. She was being a mouse-brain if she thought that he would look at her, with her odd eyes and her boring, sometimes coarse fur. She may have had her nice smile and enthusiasm on her side, but somehow those were qualities she doubted Wolfpelt would admire much. Deflated, the she-cat attempted to look enthusiastic as she normally would when Wolfpelt returned with the vole.
"Great catch!" she said with one of her pretty smiles. She managed to shake off her disconcerting feelings and turned to see if she could scent anything. She caught wind of a thrush and began stalking it, lowering her body to the ground and moving like a snake across the ground, her steps fluid. Hazelight spotted the bird pecking at some nuts, and her claws unsheathed themselves as she crouched. Narrowing her eyes, she predicted the flight the bird would take, and then she sprang, managing to catch the bird as it tried to fly away. She bit down on its neck and stood looking at it for a moment. Then she closed her eyes and thanked the bird for giving its life, and StarClan for providing prey in the cold weather.

"Thanks" he said after placing the vole on the ground, flashing her a smile. He got caught in her eyes for a second, and then watched as she went after a thrush. He purred and went over to join her once she caught the bird. "Not too bad yourself" he said, deliberately letting his fur brush hers.
Why was he so comfortable around her? He'd never felt like this around anyone before.

Wolfpelt's smile really was nice. Hazelight stared at him as he approached her and felt her heart stutter in her chest. Mouse-brain! she chided herself. He's just a Clanmate. Nothing more. Stop reading into everything! You're just being stupid. Then his fur brushed hers and she felt as if an electric shock had gone through her. She looked at him with wide eyes, trying to hide the uncertainty she felt inside by smiling. It was her usual deflection when she was feeling... strange emotions, and it almost always worked. Most cats never knew what she was really thinking, and Hazelight prayed to StarClan that would prove true now.
"T-thanks," she meowed. For once, the she-cat could think of nothing else to say. Which was odd, considering her talkative nature.

Her stuttering sent another smile flashing across his face. What was this fluttering feeling in his chest? Why was he so nervous yet laid back around her? Why was he able to talk to her so easily? Why did he offer for her to sleep next to him? Why did he let her stick around to watch the stars with him last night, when he never let any cat do that? Why did he bring her out on his only alone time. Better yet, why was he okay with all of it?
Wolfpelt's eyes widen a little bit as it dawned on him. Was he beginning to have feelings for this she-cat? Impossible! He didn't love anyone! But by the way he was once more getting lost in her eyes, he knew he was lying to himself.
"Great Starclan..." he murmured his thoughts out loud softly.

The look of amazement in Wolfpelt's eyes confused Hazelight. She wondered what he seemed so puzzled about. She hadn't said anything, so it wasn't as if she had done anything to instigate internal reflection of some kind. Looking closely at him, Hazelight mused over his odd expression and was surprised when spoke.
"What?" she asked worriedly, looking around to try and find the source of his bewilderment. "What's wrong?" she demanded as she turned back to him.

Wolfpelt shook his head out of his daze and tried to come up with an excuse for his outloud expressions. He couldn't tell her "Oh, I just realized I may be starting to have feelings for you". That'd be mouse brained! He thought for a moment, then got it.
"Oh,um, the clan. They'll probably start waking up soon and wondering where we are. It'd be a good idea to head back soon. You know, don't want to worry them too much" great. His first lie. Go figure.

Hazelight blinked. Somehow she had not pegged Wolfpelt as the type of cat to care much about what other cats thought. Nor did she figure he would wait for permission to leave camp. But she thought that he was probably right, so there was no point in arguing.
"Okay," she said, drawing the word out. She wasn't certain what his real intentions were. Perhaps... perhaps he just didn't want to be around her anymore? He was probably realizing how annoying she could be. Although why he hadn't realized that before she had no idea. Hazelight picked up the thrush she had caught, choking down the emotion that threatened to make her lose her cheerful exterior. She didn't want Wolfpelt to see her distress so she padded towards camp quickly, trying to keep in front of him but still look casual.

"Alright, let's get back to camp" he said, picking up the vole carefully in his jaws. "Later on, I'll convince who ever is leading the patrol to let both of us go together. I..um...you're fun to be around" Wolfpelt murmured through the vole, obviously coming off as awkward. Or, at least he felt as if he was being awkward.
With that, he started making his way for camp, walking slow enough to walk next to Hazelight.

Hazelight gave a start of surprise at Wolfpelt's words. She was... fun to be around? Maybe he honestly just didn't want to get her into trouble, and that was why they were going back to camp. A spark of happiness replaced the misery inside of Hazelight and she smiled around her prey to Wolfpelt, feeling a new spring come into her step as she made her way back towards camp. Before she slipped through the entrance she flicked her tail against his ear playfully, winking at him before she disappeared into the tunnel and then reappeared in the camp. She looked at her Clanmates all gathered around and wondered if any of them would notice their coming. Would Limefrost chastise them for going out without being assigned to hunting duty? She didn't think he would have much reason to.
