The camp was completely freezing and boring. There was nothing to do. Nobody around to talk to. Everyone was either out hunting or patrolling. Her best friend, Sageflower, was off getting googly eyed over their leader, although she never admitted that she had feelings for him. She could tell. She didn't need her confirmination. Honeyfrost sighed, and jumped a little when she felt the little kits squirm inside of her.
"It's ok, my little ones. it's not your fault that I'm stuck in here. It's your mouse brained fath--" she cut herself off. There was no need to blame Flamewhisker for this. She was just as responsible for expecting kits as he was. The light ginger she-cat sighed once more.
She was the only queen in the clan right now. Although she hadn't told a single cat other than their medicine cat, Lastsong, and her best friend, Sageflower about the kits; it was evident that she would be a mother by the size of her belly. Hiding it wasn't an option. And since she had spent so much time around Flamewhisker before he was exiled, it wasn't hard to tell who the father was. Rumors all spread around camp, rumors that were very true. She just blocked all of them out. She didn't need to answer anything.
Maybe it was that, or maybe she was just ashamed of who was fathering her kits. A father that wouldn't be there for them, just like her parents weren't there for her.
'At least I'm not dumping them on some other cat' she thought, having the bitter memory of her mother explaining to them that some other she-cat would be taking care of her and Adderkit. The past was the past. She couldn't change a thing about it.
But, she always wondered if her mother regretted giving them up. She tried to put herself in that position, but she couldn't even do that. Her kits meant the world to her, even if they were still tucked away in her belly.
The boredom was obviously starting to get to her, and her thoughts were flying everywhere. Since nobody was really around, she decided she might as well go see how Lastsong was doing. Without an apprentice, Lastsong surely was just as bored and lonely as she was.
She pushed her way out of the nursery and made her way over to the medicine cat den. While she was over there, she decided, she might as well see if her medicine cat was hungry. Honeyfrost grabbed a rather scrawny vole from the pile and pushed into the medicine cat's den.
"Lastsong? It's me, Honeyfrost. Are you hungry at all?" she asked through a mouthful of vole, carefully placing it on the ground to clear her mouth.

The medicine cat's den was a cave tucked into the back of ThunderClan's camp. The smell of herbs permeated the air, harsh and bitter to some, familiar and warm to others. Gently pushing berries into a pile with his paws, ThunderClan's medicine cat continued to sort through his store, all the time wondering at how many new herbs he could hope to find with the weather lately. The long-haired, grey tabby tom stared hard at the pile of berries, his lip twisted downwards into a worried expression. A sound at the entrance of his den distracted him from his work, and he looked to his left to see one of the Clan's warriors--or a queen now, Lastsong supposed--Honeyfrost. Lastsong pricked his ears and got to his paws, worried that there might be something wrong with the queen's kits. But she seemed fine, at first glance. Her question caught him off-guard. Hungry? he thought, a bit bewildered. He supposed he was. He just hadn't thought about that before she'd asked him. Typical. All of his worrying had drowned out the grumbling of his own stomach.
"Yes, thank you, Honeyfrost. You can leave the vole there." Lastsong gestured to the side with his tail. But he could see from the queen's face that something else was bothering her, although bothering might not have been a good word for it.
"Is there something else I can help you with?" Lastsong asked, the whiskers above his pale, green eyes rising slightly in expectation.

Honeyfrost nodded. "You're welcome" she told him, grateful that she could do something useful other than sitting around lazy all day. She shuffled her paws around. She prayed to Starclan that she wasn't bothering Lastsong. She'd feel aweful if that were the case.
"I don't think so. Everything seems to be ok with the little ones" the light ginger she-cat said. "I can't wait for them to get here. It gets lonely in the nursery... I mean, Brindlekit and Reedkit are there, but most of the time they're bothering elders or running all over camp or demanding the apprentices to teach them something" she said, a light of amusement flashing in her eyes for a moment. She remembered what is was like to be a kit. Always into everything, all except for the nursery.
"Anyways... I just thought you could use some company. I thought I'd come visit you. I won't be able to for too much longer. These kits will be here any day now"

Lastsong listened to the queen patiently, turning part of his attention back to sorting herbs. But he couldn't concentrate very well and listen at the same time, so the process was rather slower than usual. Still, Lastsong didn't mind so much. He had once been annoyed at other cats coming in to chat, but a cat moons ago had explained to him the importance of his Clanmates, and their health--both physically and mentally. It was a part of his duty as medicine cat, and as a Clanmate, to be there to listen to his Clanmates when they needed someone to rant to. And it seemed that Honeyfrost needed something to do, and talking to the grumpy medicine cat apparently had seemed appealing enough to her. Lastsong glanced at the she-cat when she seemed to have finished talking.
"Well, thank you for the visit. I don't get many cats just coming in for chats." He twitched his whiskers. Lastsong had very few visitors who didn't need him in some capacity. That probably should have made him sad, but he'd never been the most likable cat, so he'd grown quite used to it by that point.
"You'll have plenty to do once the kits arrive," he added with a solemn nod. "They'll be quite the little mischief-makers, I'm sure. Most kits are." Lastsong purred indulgently. Despite his rough exterior and sometimes-biting tongue, he had a certain fondness for kits. Not that they liked him much, but he didn't mind that. He'd never be a father, after all, so it didn't matter what kits thought of him. Lastsong felt a pang of grief and stared down at his paws.

"Oh..Well...I.." she cut off, feeling like a bother at the moment. Lastsong did seem busy. "I don't mind. Sometimes you seem a little bit lonely, and I don't mind coming in.." Honeyfrost trailed off. "Besides, you're the one I've seen the most in the last moon or two. You've helped me a lot since I've moved into the nursery"
Honeyfrost started to back away, and half of her body pushed out of the den. Before she could mention she'd leave him alone, Lastsong started to speak again. "I believe you on that one. I remember what it was like being a kit.. I can't blame them." and then, she saw a flash of sadness in his eyes. Was it possible that Lastsong felt...sad...about never being able to have a mate or kits? Pity attacked her heart, but she didn't show her sympathy.

Reedkit dashed from outside the apprentices den, his face wide with adventure. He turned to the nursery, a little grin showing up on his face. "I wanna do something, the apprentices won't teach me anything!" Reedkit bowled over to the nursery, and looked at Honeysong.
"Hey! Hey Honeysong, can I go explore the wide forest?" He inquired, bouncing freely, and smiling. Reedkit's eyes sparked as he stared at the camp exit, his pelt prickling with adventure.

Lastsong noticed that Honeyfrost was edging away and he blinked and turned his full attention to her. He wondered what was bothering her. But then, most cats left in a hurry when they visited him. No cat wanted to be around him for very long.
"Kits are kits," he meowed with a sigh. "They have all the energy in the world and the smallest piece of the forest to use it all up in. I was a bit of a paw-dragger myself. But there are always those kinds of kits, too." He sat back and curled his tail around his forepaws. It was beginning to get colder out, and he could feel the coolness coming through the fronds that covered the outside of his den. Then he glanced at Honeyfrost and half of his mouth turned upwards in a sort of slight-smile.
"Thanks for the visit, anyways. If you ever have a hankering to paw through leaves, let me know. I could always use an extra set of paws." Lastsong chuckled softly to himself. He doubted she'd actually want to help, but he'd leave the offer there nonetheless. He didn't mind company so much. He even enjoyed it sometimes, though solitary suited him just as well.

Reedkit growled at lastsong. "I have ears! Y'know!" He grinned, and prowled to Honeyfrost's side, and nudged her shoulder, his nose rubbing against the queen's shoulder. "Hey, can I PLEASE pretty please go to see the forest!"

Ooc: It's Honeyfrost, by the way. And we're in the medicine cat den, not the nursery. lol
"I could stay if I'm not being a both--" she cut off when Reedkit burst into the medicine cat's den. Him and his sister, Brindlekit, didn't have parents. So she was left to watch over them. Which wasn't so bad, since they were weened off of milk and nearly apprentices. But, still, they were definitely a pawful. She shook her head and sighed.
"No, Reedkit. You're still too young! You'll be apprenticed in less than a moon. I'm sure your mentor will show you everything once it's time." she said sternly, but then leaned over to smooth the kit's ruffled fur with her tongue.
"For now, you're stuck in camp. Where's Brindlekit at?" she asked, wondering what the kit's sister was doing. Only Starclan knew.

Reedkit turned towards the camp exit, and watched as cats poured out, and were all ready to be warrior, like hunting and fighting. The kit sat down, his eyes trailing to the ground. Reedkit lied down, and looked at Honeyfrost, and grinned. "Then that means you must entertain me until then." He prowled at her, and pawed her nose with his little paws, and went into a fighting crouch. (OOC: Oh then let's say he went in the medicine cat den to talk to Honeyfrost )

OOC: ... Well, this all makes very little sense to me, but whatevs.
Lastsong turned and looked at Reedkit with a skeptical expression on his face.
"Yes, well, little eavesdropper, I'd say the same thing to your face, so live with it." He twitched his whiskers and moved slightly to his left, to make sure the kit didn't bumble over and ruin the pile of herbs he'd been sorting. Lastsong liked kits, most of the time, but when they came into his den... Bad things usually happened.
He said nothing to Reedkit's demand for attention. That was up to Honeyfrost, though, personally, he'd tell the kit to go entertain himself. That's probably why kits don't like you, Lastsong thought dryly.

Reedkit sat down, his ears laying flat on his head. "I never-" He began, but looked into space, then back to the clearing. "Fine." He muttered, and shouldered his way towards the nursery. "Brindlekit?" He echoed past, and lied down in the flat moss, and sighed.

Honeyfrost sighed. Then, an idea popped into her head when she remembered what Lastsong has previously said before the kit burst into the medicine cat's den. "Well, since Lastsong here doesn't have an apprentice to help him out, I was going to help him sort some herbs out. You're more than welcome to help going through all of these herbs"
If the queen knew one thing about kits, it was that they didn't normally want to help out in the medicine cat's den. They wanted to do warrior things. "Oh!" she added "And then I was going to go help pick ticks off elders"
But then, she saw a disappointed Reedkit leave out of the den and into the clearning. He was probably annoyed with Lastsong. She smiled widely at her medicine cat. "Don't mind him. Kit's are going to be kits"

Lastsong fought off panic when Honeyfrost began talking about helping in the medicine den. But he sighed when Reedkit stormed out. He'd offended the kit, of course. When did he not offend some cat? Honeyfrost's words didn't really comfort him, either. He glanced at her and shrugged.
"That's true. They've got minds of their own, I suppose." He twitched his whiskers thoughtfully.

Reedkit twitched. I wander if I can sneak out of camp.. The kit thought, and bolted for the clearing, but stopped at his tracks, a little uneasy. But wouldn't that get me introuble? Reedkit's mind drifted into a trail, and he didn't know which one to go to. The annoyed kit prodded over to the fresh-kill pile, and sniffed at the little mouse that lied on the dirt."I wander.."
He quickly pawed the mouse, and stuck his claws inside its flesh, and began to eat off of its skin. "Hmm...dis ish gud." He mumbled, the food muffling his voice. As he ate, his cheeks puffed up as he smiled, making his mouth seem bigger.
